Before and after your appointment

Before you sit down

  • Bring one or two photos of a cut you like — and one you don’t
  • Tell us how much time you spend styling in the morning
  • Mention cowlicks, a thinning crown or a part you always wear
  • Say if your office has a strict dress code

Keep it looking sharp

  • Short fades: rebook every 2–3 weeks
  • Scissor cuts and longer tops: every 4–6 weeks
  • Matte paste or clay for texture, pomade for a slick finish
  • Add a beard trim so the lines match the cut

Barber or men's hair stylist?

In LA the two overlap more than ever. Barbers are known for clipper work: fades, tapers and sharp lines. Men's hair stylists are known for scissor work: longer tops, layers and flow. At Mahbod Style you get both in the same chair. Short sides and a scissor-cut top, a skin fade with a textured crop, or a fully scissor-cut medium-length style — your barber picks the right tool for each part of the head.

The consultation is the haircut

Most bad haircuts come from a two-second conversation. Ours takes two minutes and covers four things: your growth pattern (crowns and cowlicks decide where hair can sit), your face shape (more height for round faces, softer sides for long ones), your hair type (thick, fine, wavy, curly) and your routine. If you won't use product, we won't give you a cut that needs it. Bring a reference photo — and tell us what you didn't like about your last cut. That's often more useful.

Popular cuts right now

  • Textured crop — short, choppy top with a fringe; easy, modern and forgiving on thick hair.
  • Low taper with a longer top — clean edges without exposing skin; works in any office.
  • Classic side part / Ivy League — short, tidy and timeless; great for fine hair.
  • Flow and medium-length cuts — scissor-cut layers that let hair move; ideal if you're growing it out.
  • Curly tapers — curls kept on top, sides tapered so the shape stays round, not boxy.

Long hair for men

Growing it out doesn't mean skipping the barber. A trim every 6–8 weeks takes weight from the sides, cleans up the neckline and keeps the awkward stage from looking messy. Tell us your goal length and we'll cut toward it instead of against it.

Haircut and color in one visit

Gray coming in at the temples? You can book a haircut and men's hair color back to back. A root touch-up in a natural dark shade is $65 and takes about 55 minutes, so the full visit fits in under two hours.

What a men's haircut costs here

FAQ

Men's haircut questions

How much is a men's haircut at Mahbod Style?

A regular haircut is $50 and takes about 45 minutes. A skin fade is $55 (about 50 minutes). A cut with a beard trim is $65, or $70 with a skin fade.

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome seven days a week, 9 AM to 8 PM. Booking online guarantees your time and lets you choose your barber.

Can I choose my barber?

Yes. When you book online you can pick a specific barber or choose “any available” for the earliest time.

What's the difference between a regular haircut and a skin fade?

A regular haircut usually leaves some length on the sides with a clipper guard. A skin fade blends the sides all the way down to bare skin, which takes more detail work and a little longer.

Do you wash hair?

You can add a shampoo after your haircut for $5. Just add it when you book or ask at the chair.

Where do I park?

Paid street parking (meters) on Grand Ave and nearby streets, when spaces are available. 7th St/Metro Center station (A, B, D and E lines) is a short walk away.

Do you cut long hair for men?

Yes. We do scissor cuts, layers and maintenance trims for men growing their hair out. Book a scissor cut and tell us your goal length.

Can I get a haircut and hair color the same day?

Yes. Book a haircut and men's hair color back to back — the color takes about 55 minutes.
